First things first...
I guess you could say this sketch from '02 was my first 'serious' attempt at a portrait or sketching anything worthwhile. I had dabbled a little with cartoon characters, animals and such earlier on (I'll post those soon to give an idea of my journey to here), but I had always viewed sketching people too hard. I thought this picture of my little bro was adorable and so set to it one day and was a little surprised with the outcome, it actually resembled the photo! I REALLY caught the sketching bug from there and have enjoyed sketching pictures to give away to friends or family. I especially like to sketch something and put a bible verse or inspiring quote with it, as a gift for someone and use it as a kind of ministry. After all.. what is the point in creating a whole heap of pictures just to have them sit tucked away in a file? They would be meaningless in that case.
Well, as it happens from time to time, life has been a bit hectic and draining lately -- I've been lacking in motivation, energy and time to work on anything creative except a quick poem here or there, and I'm craving it! I need to block out a me day and get stuck into it again, no excuses!
Spending time doing something creative, whatever the form, always peps me up. There's nothing like a full day of creativity! I don't know why I enjoy creativity so much.. but I have my suspicions... I think it's got something to do with the fact that God is a creative being. He created this world.. formed all that we see here.. the mountains, oceans, plant life, animals.. and His most amazing creation -- us. It's natural that we'd take after Dad! I think the reason being creative brings such joy and a sense of pride, satisfaction and fulfillment is because we're mirroring God, our Father in such a vivid and expressive way and it helps reflect that part of Him in us.
"Then God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness..." Genesis 1:26
Anyway, there's my first blog! Hope it wasn't too corny. See you again soon xx
